Bad Axe High School proudly recognizes Brandon Ma as the top student of the Bad Axe High School Class of 2025. Ma credits his brother as an influential part of his life. “I’ve never stopped looking up to him for his knowledge and proficiency for computer programming and designing abilities.” Family has also impacted Ma’s future goals in other ways. It was on a family trip to Niagara Falls “when it was freezing and I stood infatuated with the falling pieces of ice as well as the waterfall’s deep sea blue-green color” that Brandon Ma realized he “wanted to recreate these colors, these ripples.”
A passion for art and design morphed into a Robotics Design and Excellence Competition Award and an entry in the Congressional Art Competition, an experience that allowed him to compare his art with others and craft a hope for a future art career. Ma recognizes the role of curiosity and creativity as key to his progress. “Curiosity is the mother of all progress; never seek to satiate it at the end of the journey.” His interests and reasons to learn are credited to curiosity and questions. “For topics such as math, science, and art, I keep feeling like I am only learning the surface-level information and am always wanting to know more, to go in-depth.” To that end, he recommends to underclassmen to “Always look back on your previous years as motivation to continue in specific topics such as art or math.” This will be his motivation as he attends the Maryland Institute College of the Arts to study graphic design. “I would love to one day be able to proudly hang paintings up in an art gallery, to see my art become valuable enough to be educational for anyone learning."

Congratulations to 8th grader Jackson Wolschlager for setting a new JH school track record in the 400m with a time of 55.57! The previous school record was from 2010. Way to go, Jackson!

Taylor Osminski has earned recognition as the second-highest academic student in the Bad Axe High School Class of 25. This two-time winner of the Best Attitude Award in basketball credits her dad with teaching her the essential life skills. “He taught me patience, hard work, and perseverance, skills I have needed and will need in my academic pursuits.” She recognizes that as she attends Grand Valley State University to study pre-medical sciences with the eventual goal of forensic pathology, these skills will be in high demand.
Osminski recommends to underclassmen, “Don't stress about what you have no control over. Only worry about what you can change.” Horse training taught her that sometimes you have to change to be successful. “I had to change my saddle position to hit different pressure points…I had to adapt my strategy to the horse’s personality, the stubbornness of the horse.” Perhaps this is why her motto is “Sometimes you have to fail before you can succeed,” a motto she also applied to AP Calculus, “a very difficult class.” Patience, perseverance, hard work, adaptation, and willingness to fail before succeeding will be key in completing the eight to twelve years of schooling required for forensic pathology - and Osminski’s bucket-list goal of publishing her own book.

Congratulations to our Art Show winners and honorable mentions
